Right now having the newest technology is all the rage across the globe. Lately people love checking out and creating some awesome inventions and gadgets to make our lives better. Check out this article for some of the most incredible inventions of all time. Some may not be the most recent inventions, but without them we can’t have the newest inventions. I am a gear head and have a massive passion for civil aviation, so a few things on this list are planes and cars, but they are on this list for a reason.
1. Boeing 747
This beauty was the first double-decker airplane ever built. The 747 was developed by Boeing in 1968 and changed the face of aviation. She is referred to as “the Queen of the sky” and held the most amount of people in a plane for almost 40 years, and is still the second largest passenger plane in the sky. 747’s can hold up to 660 passengers and is the same size as 3 Boeing 737’s (the hump is the size of one 737 and the bottom is the length of two 737’s end to end). The 747 is actually the plane used for Air Force One, but Air Force One is a bit more beefed up with more safety features.
The 747 changed aviation for the better, and is an incredible feat of engineering. She can be used as a passenger jet, cargo jet, and some have even been retired as restaurants.
2. Airbus A380
The Airbus A380 is the largest passenger plane in the sky, closely followed by the Boeing 747. Production on this behemoth began in 2005 and is still in production. The A380 was made to overthrow the Boeing 747, and it did overthrow the Queen of the skies. The A380 is bigger, more fuel efficient, and is a bit more luxurious than the 747. She can hold a total of 853 passengers, which is an extreme amount of people. She can fly at speeds equivalent to 560 miles per hour and can fly 8,500 miles without stopping. As of right now the A380 has never had a crash, and has only had one notable incident, but no one died or was injured so its hard to count it as a serious incident.
This jumbojet also changed aviation by showing that something so massive can still fly, and the technology used in the plane helped contribute to other planes using that same technology.
3. Model T
Now it’s time to go back a few years to the Ford Model T. This baby was first produced in 1908 by Henry Ford. This is considered to be the very first affordable car because it was crafted from an assembly line and not hand crafted like other vehicles before it. This car was the beginning of affordable vehicles, so it is tied directly into the cars you drive today because the Model T was the very first mass produced vehicle. The frames were made out of wood early in it’s production, and it offered a whopping 20 horsepower from its 4 cylinder engine.
Like I said, the Model T was an affordable car, costing $825 (which comes out to $22,000 in today’s inflation), and had gone down in price to $319 by 1922. While today’s cars have all the bells and whistles and luxury that so many people love, it’s hard not to appreciate the Model T for what it did for the car industry. Without that vehicle it is possible we wouldn’t have the types of cars we now have today.
4. Stair Drawers
Now we will move onto today’s pretty cool inventions. The next awesome invention is stair drawers. You can store just about anything in these drawers, from shoes and coats to books and maybe Halloween decorations to freak your guests out. The best thing about these drawers in your stairs is that you can make them yourself. Check out this article (found here) to make these drawers yourself.
This is quite possibly the biggest, and most popular, invention of the 21st century. The iPhone was released in 2007 and has been a hit since then. The iPhone is the best selling smart phone and is probably the most recognized phone, second to the Motorola RZR. The tech in this phone is actually more powerful than the computer used to go to the moon. If that isn’t a great invention, I don’t know what is.
6. Suitcase scooter
This next invention reminds me of the weird products from magazines in airplanes that you don’t necessarily need, but totally want. You can buy this beauty for $300 (can be found and bought here). I’m fairly sure if I saw someone at the airport riding one of these I would probably crack up at first then transition into trying to find one online so I could get one. If you fly frequently and hate carrying your luggage, check out this niffty luggage scooter.
7. Bed fan
Many people can only comfortably sleep when its warm in their room, or if it’s perfectly chilly to snuggle up with a blanket. You can also be someone who can’t sleep in a hot room but love snuggling with your blanket, then this awesome invention is for you. You can get a bed fan on Amazon for $100 (can be found here). The fan should be set up under your sheets and it will, obviously, cool you down or can even be used as a heater. This is definitely a great invention for people who need to sleep in specific conditions.
8. Grenade fire extinguisher
As a kid when the whole “stop, drop, and roll” lessons were going on I genuinely thought that spontaneous combustion was a common problem that they felt the need to teach us. If you happen to spontaneously combust more often than others, check this invention out. These little guys are an older cool invention. In the 30’s or so grenade fire extinguishers were made (and are sometimes still used today). If you are in a tight space with a fire you can smack one of these on the fire and it should put it out.
9. Drug detecting nail polish
While this isn’t out for purchase yet, this invention is awesome (you check it out on Facebook). A special nail polish is being researched that can detect if your drink is safe or if it has been spiked. The drug will turn your nail polish a different color so you can easily tell if you shouldn’t have a drink.
10. Gooey keyboard cleaner
Eventually every computer owner will hit a point where they feel the need to clean their keyboard. Whether its dust, crumps, or whatever else, sometimes you just need to clean in all the nooks and crannies. That’s where our next invention comes in handy. This is a gooey keyboard cleaner that can be found on Amazon (can be found here) for $5. This little guy will seep between the keys and catch all the grime and can then be lifted back up. It doesn’t leave any residue behind, so you are left with a squeaky clean keyboard.
11. Han Solo desk
This next invention is for my fellow geeks and Star Wars fans. This is a desk of Han Solo stuck in carbonite. This isn’t up for purchase, but you might be able to find someone who can make this for you. This desk was up for auction for charity and actually brought in $10,000.
12. Airplane fork
Sometimes getting kids to eat their food is a nightmare, so parents pull the whole “the fork is a plane” bit to gets kids to eat their veggies. Well now you dont have to pretend that your boring fork is a plane, now you can get an actual fork plane! You can get this on Amazon for $10 (can be found here). This is the perfect way to get your kids to eat your food, or you can use it for yourself (like I definitely would).
13. Tablet stand with toilet paper holder
This is a great invention for anyone that poops. This is exactly what it looks like; a toiulet paper holder with a tablet stand. This is perfect for people who need to bring some form of entertainment while they poop. You can actually get this at Bed, Bath and Body Works for $40 (can be found here). This is a great invention for any human who needs more out of their bathroom experience.
14. 3D printed cast
Anyone who has ever had to be in a cast knows just how much it sucks. It’s itchy, hot, and makes showering and bathing a pain in the butt. This cast solves those problems. This is a 3D printed cast that is way more hygenic and overall a better experience than having a plaster cast. A doctor, technician, or whomever will scan the problem area with a 3D scanner and a 3D printer will begin printing the parts out in sections. After that the parts will snap together and it is done. The cast is waterproof and considerably more hygenic.
15. Workhorse W-15
Like I said before, I am a pretty big gearhead and instantly fell in love with this next invention. This is the Workhorse W-15, an electric pickup truck capable of going around 300 miles on a single charge. It has 268 horsepower, which is quite impressive for an electric vehicle. This truck is still in it’s concept phase, but it seems pretty solid so far.
16. Ballpoint Pen
This invention isn’t as cool as some of the others, but it has been a game changer in many lives and professions. The ballpoint pen was created in 1888 in response to writing on different mediums without ink pouring out or not writing at all. It obviously worked since the most common pens are ballpoiunt pens.
TV’s are quite possibly one of the greatest inventions ever made. The first TV’s came into experimentation in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s, and changed lives worldwide. What started out as crude motion pictures in the 1920’s turned into now 4K televisions that offer incredible graphics and high definition.
18. R2-D2 Fish Tank
This is again for Star Wars fans; an R2-D2 aquarium! This was once available from Petco, but I cannot seem to find it available for sale anywhere. The tank lights up and the top can actually move and rotate. If you want one I would suggest souring the internet.
19. Incandescent Light Bulb
The light bulb is something that also changed human history. Thomas Edison bought the rights to incandescent light bulbs in 1880, and was able to perfect and market it. This made so many things we have today possible. While this isn’t new and great, it was a necessary and incredible invention that makes modern life possible.
Now to the most important creation in human history: the toilet. I don’t know about anyone else, but I certainly am thankful that we have working plumbing and toilets. Now there are toilets that can flush 20 golf balls and have a nozzle that cleans strange areas.
