There are many downloader sites out there for MP3 and today I will be writing about the best ones that are for specific for using with YouTube. If you haven’t heard of YouTube by now, you must be completely new to the Internet. Because of its great library of music, it has lead to many people using it for finding their favorite songs. But there are some drawbacks with using it directly from their site. The biggest is that you have to be connected to the Internet with a decent connection. That can really limit you if you will be out of Internet connection or simply don’t want to have to use your data just to listen to your favorite tunes. I fly a lot, so I needed a way to get my music off of YouTube onto my device so it can be used wherever.
That’s why I created this list. To show you the best options that are out there if you want to download music from YouTube. Here are the Top 5 Best YouTube MP3 downloaders.

Brief Overview of YouTube
YouTube the second most visited site on the Internet and they are owned and operated by Google. They’ve been operating since 2005 and quickly became the largest video hosting service on the Internet. You can find videos about practically anything and many YouTube creators have started to make careers and a decent living off of YouTube.
What Are MP3 Downloaders?
While it is mostly known for great videos, there is also an insane amount of music on YouTube and not just music videos from sites like Vevo. There are probably hundreds of thousands of songs on YouTube where the video portion is just a still image, usually of the album cover or something related. Due to this, you can find most songs you want and it has lead to people using YouTube as a legitimate source for music. So much so that we compared it to SoundCloud here. If I don’t have a particular song but want to listen to it, I’ll almost always just search on YouTube and will be able to find it.
That’s where these YouTube MP3 converters come handy. I discovered these type of sites probably six or seven years back, and they have helped a ton. Essentially they are sites where you can just copy the URL from any YouTube video and it then converts the audio file to an MP3. This is a super useful piece of technology, and back then there were only a couple sites so you didn’t have much to choose from. Now, there are so many that it can almost be too much.
The 5 Best
Here are the five MP3 downloaders that I would recommend. The differences aren’t that great between them, so there won’t be much description for each. Just know that all of them allow you to paste an URL and then converts it into an MP3 file. They are also free and unless I state otherwise, they let you download the videos into nearly every other file type for audio files.
This is probably the most widely used and it one of the originals, so I had to include it. It’s basic in design, but it definitely gets the job done, and with great speed.
Here is probably the most aesthetically pleasing site on this list. Compare its screenshot above to the one of Listentoyoutube.com. The latter is what these sites normally look like. They are set up inexpensively and quickly and the thing they worry about the most is if the site functions correctly. While that is definitely the number one priority for FLVTO, they also have a nice layout that looks much more modern than other sites on this list.
IxConverter is a new site in this genre that offers essentially all of the same functions as the others. However, the biggest difference about it is that it doesn’t just do YouTube videos. There is a link for Facebook, Instagram, Daily Motion, and several other sites that you can download audio files off of. Even though these sites aren’t nearly as popular as YouTube for music, it’s still a cool feature nonetheless.
No real difference stand out about this site, except that it is one of the newest sites in this field.
Rounding off this list is yet another standard converter. No other features that set it apart from the others, except a great clean a modern look. Despite its basicness, this is actually my favorite to use, as the design is simple but looks nice at the same time and the download speeds are fast.
Tips on Selecting Videos
Here are a couple of tips that I have noticed while using a YouTube mp3 converter that I think will help you in finding the best videos for songs. When you go to download a song on other platforms like iTunes or Spotify, you know exactly what song you are getting and you know it will be off perfect quality each time. You also know that it will either be the clean or explicit version so you know all of the details of the song without even having to listen to a work of it.
The same cannot be said of content you get off of YouTube. Most of these videos are user uploaded, so you really never know exactly what you’ll be getting as far as those factors go. That’s why I included this section in this article. Over the years, I have used these tools many times, and often I would get sub-par quality songs, or not even the one I wanted. Read below so you won’t make the same mistakes I did.
What To Listen For
All of the possible problems associated with getting a poor music file all can be fixed by one solution. LISTEN TO THE SONG before you download it. Many times, I would just click on a video, not even listen to it for a second, and copy and paste the URL before the video even loaded.
While this is probably the fastest way to go about using these tools, it is not by any means effective. Time and time again I would find myself having to go back in and having to download a different version of the song. So in the long run, it was actually costing me time.
So listen to the song before you download it. That’s a good general rule, but I don’t think it’s specific enough. Here are the specific things that you should listen to, as these are the most common reasons why I had to download a different version
- Remixes – this is the most annoying that you will find, as many times a song will be a remix. Sometimes the title won’t tell you, but usually, you will be able to catch this as in the title or the description
- Music Videos – something to keep in mind is that many times music videos will have additional content not related to the song. Many have skits at the beginning that can go on for several minutes. I personally never use music videos for that reason when downloading an MP3 file, but if that’s the only option, just make sure it’s only the music.
- Quality/Loudness – here’s the biggest thing for me, and you can’t really test it with your standard computer speakers. Plug in some headphones and adjust it to the volume you normally listen to music at. Listen closely to see if you notice a difference in either the quality or the loudness compared to your other music. If not, then you are good, but it is always something important to check.
- Ends – finally, make sure that the video ends as the song does. Sometimes, a video will cut a song short, or in the case of music videos many times, there will be something extended the video. Just skip to the last 10 seconds or so to make sure that the ending is of your approval.
You don’t even have to listen to the whole video. Listen at the beginning for the first 30 seconds, and then click to the end to make sure that is clean. Just by taking this little bit of extra time, you can verify you are downloading exactly what you want.
YouTube mp3 converters and downloaders sites are great ways to get tons of free music off of YouTube, and there are some that are the best. Many people don’t know it exists, and others don’t even think of YouTube as a platform for music. Yes, its primary functions are for videos, but there is just as much if not more music on there as well.
The hardest part of writing this article was picking which converters to select. The bottom line is that all of these sites are relatively the same, as most don’t have any other feature that makes them special. With them all, you can paste an URL from YouTube and a mp3 file will be created in seconds. I just wanted to give you the best looking and the ones with the quickest download speeds, as there aren’t many other features to consider.
I hope that you enjoyed this article and learned a lot. Next time you find a song or mp3 you like on YouTube, try to use one of these best downloader sites. You’ll see just how easy it is and you may continue to do it. If you liked my reading and would like to read more, check out my page here which has all of my contributions to Digital Recourse.
