Netflix New Releases June 2016

As May 2016 is coming to end, we would like to show you what is coming to Netflix in June.

I love everyone over at Netflix. They’re all fantastic and an absolute joy to work with. – Aaron Paul

Among the many highlights of what is coming to Netflix in June 2016 I would draw attention to the Netflix original shows and movies to be added. After all, this is the truly exclusive content you will not find anywhere else. In June 2016, Netflix originals coming in June include:

Hibana: Spark, Bo Burnham: Make Happy, Voltron: Legendary Defender: Season 1, LEGO Friends: The Power of Friendship: Season 2, Orange is the New Black: Season 4, All Hail King Julien: Season 3, The Fundamentals of Caring (2016), Dragons: Race to the Edge: Season 3, Justin Time GO!, and A Very Secret Service: Season 1.

  • Hibana: Spark. This Japanese Netflix Original TV drama starring Kento Hayashi, Kazuku Namioka, Mugi Kadoawki, Masso Yoshii, Hideki Murata, and Nahana is a book adaptation about two young comedians who are friends looking to add some meaning into their comedy and their personal lives.
  • Bo Burnham: Make Happy. YouTuber Bo Burnham’s stand-up special show “Make Me Happy” finally comes to Netflix.
  • Voltron: Legendary Defender: Season 1. This 13 episode animated show is a reboot of the 1980s cartoon Voltron. Recommended for nostalgic viewers and new audiences alike.
  • The Fundamentals of Caring (2016) is a movie written and directed by Rob Burnett (previously known as the executive producer of Late show with David Letterman). It is an adaptation of the 2012 novel by Jonathan Evison The Revised Fundamentals of Caregiving. It is a comedy about the father of a teen son with a rare disease. It stars Paul Rudd as Ben, Selena Gómez as Dot, Craig Roberts as Trevor, and Megan Fergusson as Peaches.
  • Justin Time GO! is a spin off of the Canadian cartoon show for pre-school kids Justin Time.
  • A Very Secret Service: Season 1. This French television show made by Arte TV comes to the United States as a Netflix exclusive. A Very Secret Service is a comedy about the last days of France’s colonial past in the 1950s and 1960s.

Apart from those Netflix original shows and movies, Netflix has many other interesting releases in store for its subscribers in June.

Among the many new movies, there are the following highlights:

  • Elizabeth: The Golden Age (2007). The sequel to the film Elizabeth about Queen Elizabeth also directed by Shekhar Kapur and starring, one more time, Cate Blanchet. In Elizabeth: The Golden Age, the plot of the movie revolves around the events of the military clash between England and Spain in the 17th century, which concluded with the Spanish Armada’s defeat.
  • J. Edgar (2011). This biopic about FBI director J. Edgar Hoover was directed by Clint Eastwood, written by Dustin Lance Black, and had a stellar cast including Leonardo DiCaprio, Naomi Watts, Judi Dench, Armie Hammer, Josh Lucas, and Ed Westwick.
  • Jurassic Park (1993). This 1990s blockbuster about cloned dinosaurs based on the novel by Michael Crichton and directed by Steven Spielberg finally comes to Netflix this summer. The movie stars Sam Neil, Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum, Richard Attenborough, and Samuel L. Jackson.
  • Jurassic Park III (2001). This is the third installment of the Jurassic Park franchise. Directed by Joe Johnston, this movie stars Same Neil, William H. Macy, Téa Leoni, Alessandro Nivola, Trevor Morgan, and Michael Jeter.
  • The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997). The second movie in the Jurassic Park franchise was also directed by Steven Spielberg and based on a Michael Crichton novel. The Lost World: Jurassic Park stars Jeff Goldblum, reprising his role as scientist Ian Malcolm; Julianne Moore, Pete Postlewaite, Arliss Howard, Vanessa Lee Chester, and Vince Vaughn.
  • I Am Thor (2015). This documentary movie is about the life of Jon Mikl Thor who is an actor, musician, and body builder best know from fronting rock band THOR in the 1980s.

When it comes to TV shows, Netflix June releases also include new seasons of some fan favorite TV comedies and dramas, such as the following:

  • Beauty & the Beast: Season 3. The now canceled CW show starring Kristin Kreuk and Jay Ryan will be finally be completed on Netflix when its third and final season made up of  13 episodes is added in June 2016.
  • Pretty Little Liars: Season 6. Teenage girls’ favorite show Pretty Little Liars’ most recent season will also be added in June. This is by far one of the most popular shows on Freeform (previously known as ABC Family) In these new 20 episodes, the girls try to find out with the mysterious ‘A’ really is.
  • Scandal: Season 5. Another fan favorite, all of Scandal season five’s 21 episodes will be made available at once in June 2016. Summer is the perfect time to see what Olivia Pope has been up to before season 6 premieres in the fall.
  • The League: Season 7. This FXX sports comedy which bagan on FX back in 2009, returned to cable last year with 13 new episodes. If you did not have time to watch them then or would like to watch them again, this is your chance. This is the fantasy football’s show final season so you really have no excuses!
  • Being Mary Jane: Season 3. This BET original drama series about the life of Atlanta’s fictional news anchor Mary Jane Paul has recently been renewed for a fourth season. With the addition of season 3 in June 2016, all 30 episodes of Being Mary Jane will be available to stream on Netflix.
  • Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Season 3. This Marvel show created by Joss Whedon, Jed Whedon, and Marissa Tancharoen for ABC is based on the comic book series S.H.I.E.L.D written by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. Season 3 adds 22 episodes to the first two seasons, making 66 the total number of episodes available on Netflix from June. If you are a fan of the Marvel universe, you cannot miss this show, a perfect companion to Netflix own Marvel shows Jessica Jones, and Daredevil.
  • Grey’s Anatomy: Season 12. Who could have thought when Grey’s Anatomy premiered on ABC back in 2012, that 12 season later the medical drama will be as popular as ever. Not only that, but the show seems to add new fans every season. Season 12 is the most recent installment and when all its 24 episodes are added to Netflix in June 2016, there will be a whopping 269 episodes for you to binge on whatever you like. The show, created by TV’s queen Midas Shonda Rhimes, has received many Emmy and Golden Globes nominations throughout the years and won a bunch of them. Some of the events of season 12 shocked long term fans (no spoilers, do not worry!) but most agree it was one of the best seasons to date!
